The Brigade has been established in South Africa to further the work of The Girls’ Life Brigade, which was first registered in Cape Town, South Africa in 1925. In September 1968 The International Council of The Girls’ Brigade was formed. Historically, the movement stems from three organizations: The Girls’ Brigade formed in Dublin, Ireland in 1893; The Girls’ Guildry founded in Scotland in 1900 and The Girls’ Life Brigade founded in England in 1902. The first Annual General Meeting of The National Council of The Brigade was held in Cape Town in June 1970. At a Youth Forum held on 9 December 2000, The Girls Brigade National Youth Council was formed. The Office Bearers were inducted at the Annual Conference of The Girls’ Brigade South Africa on 29 April 2001.
